Imagine a beauty brand that revolves around you.
Beauty consumers are asking better questions.
Not simply, “Does this shade look good on me?” but:
What is actually in this product? Why is it there? Is it necessary? And are there other ways to formulate it?
At Axxis Beauty™, we believe those questions matter.
One formulation decision we’re proud of is simple:
We do not use talc in any of our powder products.
But we also believe ingredient education should be based on facts—not fear. So let’s talk about what talc actually is, why it has traditionally been used in cosmetics, why concerns exist around it, and why Axxis Beauty™ chose another route.
WHAT IS TALC?
Talc is a naturally occurring mineral composed primarily of magnesium, silicon, oxygen and hydrogen. Because talc is exceptionally soft and has useful physical properties, it has been widely used in cosmetic powders for decades.
In makeup, talc can help absorb moisture, reduce caking, improve texture and create a smooth application. That’s why you’ll often find it in products such as blush, bronzer, setting powder and eyeshadow.
So, functionally, there’s a reason the beauty industry has used it.
But “commonly used” and “necessary” aren’t the same thing.
And that’s where our formulation philosophy comes in.
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH CONVERSATION AROUND TALC?
This is where accuracy matters.
Talc and asbestos are not the same substance.
However, both are naturally occurring minerals, and talc deposits can occur geographically near asbestos. Because asbestos is a known carcinogen, the potential for asbestos contamination in mined talc has been an important safety concern.
The FDA explains that this geological relationship makes careful selection of talc mining sites and adequate testing important.
That does not mean that every cosmetic product containing talc contains asbestos.
That’s an important distinction, and one we aren’t going to blur simply because a scarier statement would make better marketing.
FDA testing of talc-containing cosmetic products found no asbestos in the samples tested in 2021, 2022 or 2023. However, an earlier targeted FDA sampling assignment reported in 2020 found asbestos in 9 of 52 samples tested.
That’s precisely why this subject deserves education rather than a viral sound bite.
WHY DOES AXXIS BEAUTY™ CHOOSE TO FORMULATE WITHOUT TALC?
Our philosophy isn’t built around asking only:
“Can we use this ingredient?”
We also ask:
“Do we need to?”
There is a difference.
When we can create the color, texture, blendability and performance we’re looking for without talc, we’ve chosen to do exactly that.
Axxis Beauty™ powder products are formulated without talc.
That decision isn’t intended to tell you that every talc-containing cosmetic on your vanity is inherently unsafe.
It means we’re giving our customers another option.
Because we believe innovation in beauty doesn’t always mean adding another ingredient.
Sometimes it means questioning whether one needs to be there in the first place.
TALC-FREE SHOULDN’T BE FEAR-BASED MARKETING
This is important to us.
We don’t want to build Axxis Beauty™ by frightening women into buying from us.
There is a difference between saying:
“Here is why we made this formulation choice.”
and
“Every product formulated differently from ours is dangerous.”
We won’t make the second claim.
Scientific discussions surrounding talc are nuanced. The American Cancer Society, for example, distinguishes between talc containing asbestos and asbestos-free talc when discussing potential cancer risks and notes that research involving asbestos-free talc has produced less-clear findings.
Ingredient education loses credibility when nuance disappears.
Our goal is to give you enough information to make an informed decision for yourself.
TURN THE PRODUCT OVER.
One of the most powerful things you can do as a beauty consumer takes about ten seconds:
Turn the product over and read the ingredient list.
Don’t stop at beautiful packaging.
Don’t stop at someone’s marketing video.
Don’t assume that “clean,” “luxury,” “natural,” “professional,” or any other word on the front of a product tells you everything about what’s inside.
Learn the ingredients.
Ask why they’re there.
Compare formulas.
Understand what you’re putting on your skin.
A beautiful brand can capture your attention.
An educated consumer knows what deserves to keep it.
THIS IS WHAT “REVOLVES AROUND YOU” MEANS TO US.
Our subtitle isn’t simply something beautiful we place underneath our logo.
Imagine a beauty brand that revolves around you.
To us, that means considering the person on the other side of the product.
It means questioning formulas.
It means providing options.
It means educating instead of expecting blind trust.
And it means being willing to explain not only what we formulate, but why we make the choices we make.
Our decision to formulate our powder products without talc is one small example of a much larger philosophy:
Beauty should evolve as consumers become more educated.
You deserve beautiful pigment.
You deserve performance.
You deserve innovation.
And you deserve enough transparency to decide what belongs in your beauty routine.
